Spring lambing is the time to go, the touch barn was the highlight for our little ones. Check the daily timetable at the gate so you do not miss the feeds.

Cotswold Farm Park at Guiting Power is the rare-breeds farm made well known by Adam Henson and the BBC's Countryfile. It is a proper day out built around farm animals, with a touch barn where children can stroke and meet smaller animals, plus sheep, goats, pigs, cattle, ponies and rare breeds across the paddocks. Daily activities include animal feeding, milking demonstrations and, in spring, lambing.

Beyond the animals there is a large adventure playground, a jumping pillow, tractor-and-trailer rides, a wildlife walk and a seasonal maize maze later in the year. There is plenty of room to run and the surrounding Cotswold countryside is part of the appeal. The pace of the day is set by the activity timetable, so it pays to check it on arrival.

It suits all ages, with the youngest enjoying the touch barn and the older ones the playground and maze. Allow a full day and bring waterproofs, as much of it is outside.

Good for: animals, outdoors, sensory. Ages: 0–2, 3–4, 5–7, 8–11, 12+.
