The animal trail is genuinely hands-on and the staff take time with hesitant children. Go early in the school holidays when the event days run, and factor in the pick-your-own if strawberries or sunflowers are in season.
Over Farm is a working fruit farm and market garden on the edge of Gloucester that opens its fields and farmyard to families each weekend from February half-term through to late November. The Countryside Adventure brings together an animal trail, adventure play and seasonal rides in one ticket: children can hand-feed llamas, pigs, donkeys, sheep and goats, run between two adventure play areas, bounce on jumping pillows and ride the seasonal quad trains and tractor rides around the farm.
Pick-your-own runs through the warmer months, with strawberry fields open from June and a sunflower field through the summer holidays, which gives a seasonal reason to return. The farm shop attached to the site sells its own produce and local food, and an on-site cafe serves hot food and snacks. The outdoor space is large and open, which suits children who want room to run as much as structured activities.
The animal trail is the heart of it, with staff happy to let children take their time feeding and meeting the animals. It works well for families with younger children in particular, and the school holiday event days add themed extras on top of the standard offer.
