Unlimited rides all day is the winning bit, our toddler went round four times. The indoor village with its secret doors was a brilliant rainy backup, so it works whatever the weather.
Perrygrove Railway near Coleford is a narrow-gauge steam railway designed firmly with families in mind, where one ticket gives unlimited rides all day. The little steam trains run through the Forest of Dean countryside with four stations to explore, and children can ride again and again, which is exactly what train-mad youngsters want. The friendly scale makes it ideal for the youngest visitors.
There is far more than the train, though. The Treetop Adventure is an indoor village inside a barn, with hidden passages, secret doors and a treasure hunt that delights smaller children, plus woodland play areas, swings, dens and an outdoor adventure space among the trees. It blends rides, indoor play and outdoor exploring, so it copes with the weather and fills a relaxed half day or more.
It suits all ages, but it is especially good for toddlers and pre-schoolers who love trains. Note it opens on selected days, so check the calendar before you go.
